Montaione has everything you could wish for in a holiday destination. In the heart of Tuscany, less than an hour’s drive from the region’s most famous art cities (such as Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca) and about 30 minutes from San Gimignano and Volterra, it is a village of around 3,500 inhabitants located on top of a hill at 373 metres above sea level.
Our farmhouse Piè di Costa is located just 500 metres from the historic centre of Montaione, surrounded by the gentle Tuscan hills among vineyards and olive groves. An ideal location for those who wish to explore the village while relaxing in the peaceful countryside, enjoying authentic and charming views.
As demonstrated by several archaeological findings, partly displayed in the civic museum, the origins of Montaione date back to the Etruscan-Roman period. More detailed records are available from the 13th century, when the village was known for the art of glassmaking.
The territory of Montaione, still unspoiled and of high natural and scenic value, covers approximately 10,490 hectares and is characterised by the typical Tuscan landscape, with vineyards, olive groves, rows of cypress trees and extensive woodland areas.
