Montaione, an ancient village among the hills of Tuscany
Here you will find our farmhouse Piè di Costa
Montaione has everything you could wish for in a holiday destination. In the heart of Tuscany (Valdelsa), less than an hour’s drive from the region’s most famous art cities (such as Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca) and about 30 minutes from San Gimignano and Volterra, it is a village of around 3,500 inhabitants located on top of a hill at 373 metres above sea level.
Our farmhouse Piè di Costa is located just 500 metres from the historic centre of Montaione, surrounded by the gentle Tuscan hills among vineyards and olive groves. An ideal location for those who wish to explore the village while relaxing in the peaceful countryside, enjoying authentic and charming views.
Also close to the characteristic villages of Castelfiorentino (10 km), Gambassi Terme (6 km), Certaldo (19 km), and Montespertoli (22 km), with which it shares - in part - its history, Montaione is a town whose origins date back to the Etruscan-Roman period, as evidenced by various archaeological finds, some of which are now on display at the civic museum.
More detailed information is available starting from the 13th century, a period when the town was known for the art of glassmaking.
The territory of Montaione, which has reached the present day still uncontaminated and of high naturalistic and landscape value, extends for about 10,490 hectares and is characterized by the typical Tuscan landscape, with vineyards, olive groves, rows of cypress trees, and vast wooded areas.
The village offers all the services necessary for a comfortable stay: supermarkets, restaurants, bars and shops of all kinds. From June to September, numerous festivals and events celebrate local traditions, including farmers’ markets, artisan fairs and live music concerts.
Montaione has long been part of the national association “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy”, a network that brings together the most charming and well-preserved historic centres in the country. Being included in this prestigious association means that the village maintains high standards of urban, environmental and landscape quality, making every visit an authentic and fascinating experience. Montaione, together with other selected Tuscan villages, is listed among The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy thanks to compliance with the “Quality Charter”, a recognition that highlights the community’s commitment to preserving traditions, art and local identity.
Staying in Montaione, at agriturismo Piè di Costa, means experiencing the most authentic Tuscany: slow rhythms, breathtaking views, excellent cuisine and countless experiences to discover.
